NotABot Stats Update
In all, 162 accounts participated, 63 led the pack by completing the assignment and becoming verified NotABots, and 33 of those took it a step further by reciprocating at least once. Along the way our progenitors collectively dished out 260 verifications to get things rolling. Points will be awarded accordingly.
I’ll be setting up a Nest to meet with anybody interested in discussing the future direction of NotABot, share what worked and what didn’t work in terms of developing an app like this entirely on Nostr, and to solicit your feedback about what you’d like to see more of. If there is any curiosity about how I did any part of it technically, I will gladly answer all questions.
I very much appreciate everyone’s patience. Back in January, somebody asked about our New Year’s resolutions. Mine was to stick to my academic plan. As much as I’ve wanted to throw that out the window and work on Nostr, the most important promises we make are to ourselves. I also always prioritize my IRL friends and family, and my health as we all should. I’m beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel though, and I can’t wait to get back to building stuff for ya’ll.

Vote Republicrat. The cycle of abuse can’t survive without your help. View quoted note →
Oof. Broken Money is an insanely good book. Fellow humans… we are not batteries for the counterfeit class to drain.

Day 3 of a nasty cold. Nothing to do but relax and read @Lyn Alden's Broken Money.
Nostr has me dyin’ today… So let’s talk domains and dating…
NostrDating.com 💕
If there are any female product designers/managers out there who would like to take a stab at building a dating site on Nostr, reach out. If there’s enough interest, I could tackle dev after the NotABot refactor. Would have to be a shared equity agreement or something. Looking for somebody with a strong portfolio who can do a lot of the lifting in terms of ux/ui design. Could be a cool opportunity for the right person.
Otherwise, the domain is up for grabs for 6.15 BTC. Firm. 😂
Can anybody recommend a Lightning wallet that tracks both the initial and current USD value of a received transaction? For comparative teaching purposes…
My first attempt at a meme. I’ll drop the hi res image without text in the comments for anybody to use.

Do not consent

-> vote for a Republicrat -> the Fed prints money -> the poor get poorer -> life gets harder -> the Republicrats blame each other, grow angrier, and argue -> vote for a Republicrat ->
This is the energy right here. I really respect this dude.
@jack I just listened to your podcast with @jack mallers and very much appreciated your identification of abstractions being core to the challenges we face as a society. I thought you might like this piece I wrote coming out of the pandemic about the pitfalls of human abstractions (and yes… the diagram is made entirely of Keynote icons. Lol). Coincidentally, I linked to this piece when applying to a job at Strike years ago. :-)
My ultimate dream is to develop a village in the global south that teaches skills in permaculture, natural building, classical economics, and Bitcoin. The hero’s journey for me is untangling from the abstraction. Anyway, if you find the time to read it, I hope you enjoy it. :-)

Death by Abstraction
Whole Being and Personal Agency
Are there any fee notification bots floating around nostr yet? Something that’ll send a dm when sat/vB is below a certain level?
Excerpt from my final essay for history of western civ that traces Europe’s March from the 1600’s to modernity. I called it, “The Story of the Guy Who Hitched a Plow to an Ox and Dug a Hole for the Entire World.” 😆
“As Europe grappled with antiquated and failing systems of governance, the Industrial Revolution steadily separated people from the land and put them to work in factories amid grueling conditions adding to the tensions developing between the people and those with the power to govern. This separation from the land created a crucial, often unnoticed dependence on financial systems as the primary means for satisfying one’s basic needs. In time it would become rare for a family to grow their own food and build their own house. Rather families would come to rely on employment and a complex system of functioning intermediaries (colloquially known as “the economy”) for their primary means of sustenance. Rather than physical territory, money itself would become the new realm of power, and those with the power to print it - the new global monarchs. Today, bureaucracies are the bedrock of human life, rather than actual bedrock. Nature has bowed and debt has enslaved the world.”
