Exam time! As a teacher, I consider exams to be an assessment of my effectiveness as well as the students abilities. #teaching #chemistry image

Another beautiful week in the Zambian bush. We saw lots of animals, but I only snapped the one picture of a Kudu. I enjoy watching them and forget about my camera most of the time. #Kafue #Zambia

Zambians take their national identity from the government. And the governement has let them down. However, in the US the national identity is set in antagonism to the governement. We expect the governement to disapoint so we do not lose national identity when them governement fails. These are my thoughts when asked by a Zambian friend who was at my house on the 4th of july asked, "Why Americans are so patriotic in comparison with Zambians?" Specifically he was interested in how the US has kept some patriotism alive for >200 years while Zambia at 60 years old is seeing patriotism drop. I think is historically true, but necessarily true in rhe peesent moment in American politics. #zambia #independence #patriotism #USA

Teaching chemistry is underrated. Last week I gave the students house hold acids and bases and had them compete to see who could make the stongest pH buffer. The competition inspired them to work harder and hopefully learn more. Not to mention the assignment allowed me to channel my inner Snape. #chemistry #STEM image
