When I started as a software developer over 15 years ago, I worked long hours, taking days to do things an experienced dev could do in a quarter of the time. Did it for next to nothing. And it made sense because I had very little experience. I was happy doing it, always learning and taking pride in my work.
With AI, I'm shipping more software than ever, but the work doesn't feel like a craft to me anymore. I still work in software. About a year ago, I decided to put more of my time into woodworking.
I'd been doing it as a hobby for years, collecting tools, getting better and occasionally making things for my family for free. I did a lot of construction work with wood before getting into more precise projects.
Today I'm putting a piece up for sale for the first time: an oak end-grain cutting board I finished a couple of days ago. It's the second one I've made. I gave the first to my auntie in July.
If you've been following me here, you may have seen some of the things I've built, including this board as I was making it.
I'm happy with how it turned out, and I can see where I could do better next time. The close-ups show the cracks I've worked beeswax into. It also rocks very slightly on one side. I took my time making it and enjoyed the work.
Finished with beeswax from my uncle's hives. I'll include a cloth and a small jar of the wax finish so you can wax the board again from time to time.
I'm asking 50,000 sats for this one. I can also make boards to order.
I'd love to make my first sale here on Nostr. Let me know if you're interested.
