Put our big boar in the freezer this weekend. Was a little too much to handle getting hooked onto the scale so I took a measurement and he came in at 446 lbs. I’ve found that this method is pretty accurate. For those that don’t know: - measure the girth around the heart - measure the length from base of the ears to tail. - estimated weight = (Girth x girth x length) / 400 Oh and pigs yield about 60% meat #homestead #grownostr #foodfreedom #homegrown #pigs

Question for anyone who has raised sheep. We just had twin lambs two days ago and the ewe is now acting really lethargic and just wants to lay down. She seemed fine this morning but doesn’t really want to move much now. However she is getting up for the lambs to feed and seems fine to do that. As I’m planning our new ~5 acre pasture, I need to figure out how we’ll energize the fence. Most likely just going to replicate this one again as it’s been running hot since day 1 and requires no connection to grid power.
