Nubia’s Red Magic Tablet was built for gaming (if you like gaming on Android) The first Red Magic tablet features a 12.1 inch, 2560 x 1600 pixel display with a 144 Hz refresh rate, 240 Hz touch sampling rate, and up to 600 nits brightness as well as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor and as passive “ICE Magic” cooling system that the company says helps keep the temperature low during gameplay. The tablet is up for pre-order in China with prices starting at 3,999 CNY (about $550.) While Nubia is putting an emphasis on the tablet’s gaming cred, it also just appears to offer a pretty good set of specs at a reasonably affordable price tag (at least when compared with Samsung’s flagship tablets).

Google Cloud furthers Bitcoin Lightning ambitions with Voltage partnership Google Cloud is the latest company to show interest in Bitcoin Lightning. The $225-billion cloud and data service recently partnered with Voltage, an infrastructure provider specializing in the Bitcoin Lightning Network. The partnership will allow one of the world’s largest cloud computing providers to roll out Bitcoin-based services worldwide while assisting the expansion of Voltage’s operations. Conversely, Google can use “Voltage as sort of their outsourced Bitcoin and lightning team.” He said, “We service that business for them of actually, you know, helping companies that are interested in adding Bitcoin or Lightning into their services.” Despite Apple striking off the Lightning-friendly app Damus — much to the chagrin of the former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey — Lightning continues to gain traction among billion-dollar businesses worldwide. One of Mexico’s largest companies has begun experimenting with Lightning, while two major crypto exchanges, Binance and Coinbase, recently promised Lightning integrations.

China releases its first open-source computer operating system https://www.reuters.com/technology/china-releases-its-first-open-source-computer-operating-system-2023-07-06/ China has released its first homegrown open-source desktop operating system, named OpenKylin, state media said, as the country steps up efforts to cut reliance on U.S. technology. Released on Wednesday, and based on the existing open-source Linux operating system, China's version was built by a community of about 4,000 developers, and is used in its space programme and industries such as finance and energy, they added. China's massive market for operating systems was worth 15.5 billion yuan ($2.1 billion) last year, state media said, citing an industry report. Developing an operating system independent of U.S. technology has been an important goal for China's tech industry in recent years, with many companies and organisations having contributed to the development of the OpenKylin system. It most notable backer is the China Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team under the purview of the industry and information technology ministry.

July 2023 Android security update rolls out to Google Pixel and some Samsung Galaxy phones July 2023 Android Security Bulletin The July 2023 Android Security Bulletin outlines a total of 24 vulnerabilities in the Android Framework and system components and a total of 20 vulnerabilities in the kernel and vendor components. The CVE numbers, type of vulnerability, and affected OS components are listed in the tables published by Google. Nearly all the vulnerabilities in the Android Framework and system components have been addressed with the security update to the 2023-07-01 patch level, whereas the vulnerabilities in the kernel and closed-source vendor components have been addressed with the 2023-07-05 patch level. This may not be a Pixel feature drop update, but I would say it is far more important.

Why did they remove IR blasters from smart phones?!? Unused to program machinery with an old HTC Apache running Windows... I never thought I would miss that, or say this...

I say we all get together and get someone like Mr. Beast to hop over from twitter to NOSTR. It would be an amazing gateway to web3 for a massive audience.... Just saying 🤷‍♂️

If your kids want you to build them a big, above ground pool. Just say no and find a friend with a pool. I speak from experience. 😐 P.S. I'm thinking of holding gladiator death matches in the circle later this year. Sign ups will be soon 😁 image
