A lot of the transaction privacy discussion
and perhaps particularly L1 vs L2 privacy
comes down to
"do you think a Global Passive Adversary is a threat?"
because LN and L2s are obv not blockchains and not designed to function "in the open"
ie it assumes nodes are discreet and don't share info out of band
L1 is actually considered secure *because information is public.
there are secrets that aren't published to the chain that if exposed compromise privacy, timing attacks are still possible etc...
But each option offers *different tradeoffs.
STN acknowledges how hard it is to run a LN node,
but did you know how HARD it is to get your Moderod to run as a tor service??
