Yesterday, I couldn't sleep. My country is currently in an electoral period for the presidential elections, which will take place next Sunday. I came across a post from someone I know, showing a document that supposedly required merchants from a major market in Guayaquil—one of the largest cities in Ecuador—to vote for a specific list. It seemed odd to me, so I decided to verify the source. In less than a minute, I found out it was fake news. I immediately sent the correct information to this person and reminded them of the importance of verifying sources before spreading misinformation. The funniest (and saddest) part? They neither deleted the post nor corrected it. It's disheartening to see so many people more interested in confirming their own beliefs than actually looking for the truth.
