Cave Troll Always a good time. I prefer my old version without minis as cardboard counters are easier to recognise. #boardgames

Karnak Assemble structures to match contract cards scored at the end. Claim contracts early to get bonus cards, but then opponents can wreck your structures. In the end game I was blocked. I could not complete any contracts and I could not get any more pieces. Boring and frustrating. #boardgames

Before the Wind This little card game is *much* better with 3. Each player can pick an action card but if you want another player's action you can bid for it. They have to pay you to keep it or they can sell. Tense decisions. #boardgames image

Clank Catacombs Love this. The push your luck element of getting out of the dungeon before the dragon kills you is superb. You're circling around the exit in the end game trying to scrape up a last artifact before you bail while watching everyone else. #boardgames

Escape from the Aliens in Outer Space Professional production of a hidden movement print and play game. Using pen and paper would be just as good. Captain Sonar is much more tense and interesting because of the time limit and having to work with your teammates. #boardgames

Karuba This came out a couple of years before Railroad Ink and I'm sure it was inspired by Karuba, as you are connecting two opposite sides of the board in a very similar way. If you like one you'll like the other but you do not need both. #boardgames

Imhotep Boats are ferrying stone to the pyramids. You have to make sure that your stones are generating the most victory points. Once all stones are placed score a round and repeat. Lots of turn order shenanigans, which makes it very interactive. Quick and intuitive. Recommended. #boardgames

Caesar's Empire I'm surprised this hasn't been more popular. You set up trading routes across the Roman Empire collecting trade goods to make sets. It's family friendly, looks good on the table and there's plenty of skill. Maybe it's because there's no luck? ๐Ÿคท #boardgames

Fjords This multiplayer semi-abstract feels like a throwback. It's easy to learn and it takes half an hour. It's a far better game than Carcassone, although it has some of the nastiness of Hey, That's My Fish #boardgames

Big Shot I bought the Playte reprint of Big Shot by Alex Randolph. The small box unfurls into the board. Check out their eBay store which ships from Korea. It's an excellent, tight 30 minute mix of auction and area control. Reminds me of For Sale or High Society but with area control. If you win auctions you can force areas to be scored in your favour, giving you money for more auctions. You can't sit back and play it safe but you can't over-commit either. #boardgames image

Long and great day yesterday at Age of Steam UK (http://ageofsteamuk.com) 30 people showed up in St Albans and played AoS all day. I managed 3 games: Portugal, Mexico and France 2078. Such a great system.

Werewolf We had a dinner party and as the UK has been gripped with Traitors frenzy I decided to run a Werewolf game. I printed this version off BGG and it worked brilliantly. Voting is too structured and the cards aren't much good, so I bought Ultimate Werewolf for next time. #boardgamegeek image

The highlight of Handycon was playing Blood on the Clocktower on Halloween. It's basically Werewolf for gamers. I had a blast. I was the Slayer and killed the Demon - just based on his furtive body language. I wouldn't want to play this every week, but playing with 15 excited people and an experienced moderator was superb. ยฃ116 for a copy is pretty steep too. #boardgames
