The bitcoin community needs to relearn the importance of Free/Libre software. Everyone should read a bit about the history and philosophy of the free software movement. Here is one link from Richard Stallman, who honestly is up there with Satoshi as Heroes of our time.

I am so disappointed in myself over this #COLDCARD thing. I did not lose any money, mostly through luck. But, I am kicking myself over my failure to follow my convictions. I have long been a Linux nerd and a free software advocate, and not just an "open source lover". F/LOSS is the term I really want to use. I love the GPL license (but respect those who chose another, GPL compatible, license). I have read so much about licenses and the history of the F/LOSS movement. And I love that ethos. In 2021 I bought a coldcard, on the basis of recommendations, and the fact that its firmware (then) had a GPL license. Great, I was home, after having used various closed source devices. Before I even finish setting the damn device up NVK decides to change the license... And he defends this in ways that clearly shows he does not understand the true power of free software. Buuut, I fail to act. I keep listening to all the podcasters that liked the coldcard and that somehow forgave him for the license change. So I sort of suppress that dirty feeling I got for the device then, and keep using it. A few years later he shits all over the Bitclock project. And I had been actually considering buying a BlockClock. At least I never did... I only gave NVK money once, which is too many times. But what I am really kicking myself for is for not calling out all NVKs cheerleaders out there. Bitcoin would never have been where it is today if were not F/LOSS. Why should we as a community support anything that is not free software. Closed source (and "source viewable") software is immoral, and I pledge to further reduce my use of it in all cases where it is possible. (And yes, part of my job is closed source development. And it sucks. But it pays the bills...)

I always thought the Coldcard was a bit on the expensive side. Little did I know...
