“Suicide rates increased 37% between 2000-2018 and decreased 5% between 2018-2020. However, rates returned to their peak in 2022.” -CDC, USA
I know that correlation is not causation, but….John Mayer? Really? James Brown's bejeweled cape wrote better songs than John Mayer. #doomed

A lot of people wake up in the middle of the night with a dream that will make them million- or even billionaires.
I woke up thinking that "Laverne & Shirley" should be rebooted as a porn franchise, and in the series finale the girls volunteer to save the brewery from extortion by street gangs. Yes, they will have to "jump the Sharks".
Can't get that theme song out of my head:
We’re gonna do it!
Give us any chance, we’ll take it!
Give us any rule, we’ll break it!
We’re gonna make our dreams come true-we’re gonna do it!
Nothing’s gonna turn us back now.
Straight ahead, we’re on the track now!
We’re gonna make our dreams come true-doing it our way!
There is nothing we won’t try,
Never heard the word “impossible “.
This time, there’s no stopping us- we’re gonna do it!
On your mark, get set, and go now.
Got a dream, and we just know now
we’re gonna make that dream come true.
And we’ll do it our way, yes, our way.
Make all our dreams come true, for me and you!
Had a chance to meet up with my normie friends yesterday.
They are, as usual, very upset with the current POTUS.
Because of the poisons foisted upon us by him?
Because of the genocide and wars that he continues to fund with our money?
Because of the burgeoning surveillance state being installed, including a fascistic promotion of surveillance industry executives to high positions in the military?
Because of the abrogations of the most basic freedoms, including freedom of speech, being used to silence the proles and quash any dissent from his pronouncements?
Because of the profligate wasting of taxpayer resources, stolen from same and then spent on anything but the benefit of same?
No, because he cancelled Colbert.
This is America, you and me. Little pink houses, indeed.
Had this short conversation over the weekend:
Friend: "wait a sec. You don't take your phone with you when you go out?"
Me: "no. Unless I'm going somewhere far from home. For emergencies and such."
Friend" (aghast and exasperated) "BUT WHAT IF YOU GET A PHONE CALL!?!?"
Me: (biting tongue so as not to release a full diatribe): "um, I'll get the message when I get home. You know, like we did for 30+ years before cell phones were invented..."
Some will not understand my position, but be apprised that I am old and my friend is even older. I suppose that if one grew up with a phone in hand at all times, the idea that not every event needs an immediate response may sound like heresy, but I certainly expected more from my elder friend.
As much as I believe that technology addiction is detrimental to society, as I write this during my usual 8-10 per day in front of a monitor, the addiction by OLD people to technology that they barely know how to use - my friend needed weeks of tutoring when he finally bought his first android phone - is truly saddening.
As a linguist, I'm not a fan of the word "space" as it implies "emptiness" and it seems that there is truly no "emptiness" at all -
"nature does indeed abhor a vacuum".
I'm surprised that I get most of this. You did lose me at "orthagonal", but I circled back lol.
Tesla, or at least the ideas attributed to him, seem to gibe with your proposal. There is so much that we don't understand, even about the forces and matter (if matter even exists) here on Earth, and infiinitely more in the cosmos.
I do find it intriguing that some believe that ancient humans actually understood (or maybe "aliens" told them) the nature of things better than we do now, and that those people posit that a lot of the structures created by the ancients indicate that this is the case. But regardless, we do know that whatever we popularly believe at this point in time is woefully inadequate to describe our environs. Cheers to those like you who are thoughtful enough to propose a new canon altogether.
I'm approaching an "event horizon" of my own.
I will admit that I still look at the dollar value of 1000 sats more than once per day, but I'm no longer thinking "ooh that's $1.18 USD". Now I look at the number simply in relation to the number that I saw the last time I looked.
I know: "number go up".
I have been steadily raising my "zap for fun" from 1 to 21 to 42 (milestone: when incoming zaps reached 21x21 441 sats, just to make sure I'm not just being a chump) and then to 84 when incomong sats doubled to 882..
The "event horizon" is that now I look at prices offered in BTC and think "is that worth X amount of standard zaps"? I like zapping folks for nostr posts that either amuse me or make me think and now I think "is this item for sale worth X amount of those posts?"
My wish is that items that I actually value: food, clothing, shelter, would price in BTC and then I would truly leave the USD world forever.
I see that the haters are feeling themselves today, like a race horse on a cool morning.
Keep trying to create schisms among the proles - those in power love it when the idiots are useful ones.
