Pakistan has the third largest retail crypto market in the world with roughly 40 million participants already in the space. The demand was always there, the government just finally stopped fighting it. Here’s what’s interesting about how they structured it. Banks can now open accounts for crypto service providers but they cannot invest their own money or their customers money into crypto. That’s actually a smart guardrail. We’ve seen what happens when banks overlever customer deposits and those customers need access to their funds fast. SVB. Lebanon. The list goes on. This forces banks to hold fiat and stay in their lane while still serving the crypto economy. Less systemic risk, more access. That’s a win.
