Peace is definitely underrated
Unpopular opinion
Compared to the clusterfuck that westerners (on both sides of the Atlantic) are living in these days, after almost a month there, China seemed to me like an exotic bubble of peace, order, education, and progress. But hey, the Chinese Communist Party is so mean... bla bla bla...
Yeah, they aren't free in the western sense of the word; they are pretty conformist, but they are generally peaceful, safe, productive, prosperous, and better-mannered.
Are we? Not anymore.
Are we still free, at least? Have we ever really been free?
I have my huge reservations
9/11
It's the dancing Israelis anniversary all over again.
That day is marked in many minds as the beginning of the end of a 'peaceful era', that day the post-1945/post-1989 American World Order started to crumble. Twenty-four years later, it rests definitively in pieces.
A Personal Reminiscence
9/11 is my first clear memory of a global event I witnessed in person, albeit from afar. I was an insecure thirteen-year-old snowflake, just back from a late summer tennis course that I despised. I switched on the TV to watch my favorite cartoons, only to see the two towers in flames on every channel I turned to.
I was in shock. I stared at the TV for minutes, astonished and speechless. Then suddenly, my parents called me, scared, asking how I was and where I was, trying to explain what was happening. They thought a world conflict was about to break out and couldn’t hide their fears from me.
The ironies of the dates...
