The fediverse is already a very fascinating place.
I post memes, lukewarm takes, and the occasional news.
Check out @lsn@fedi.libresolutions.network which is a passion project of mine.

I love how we 'need' ID verification online because we allowed Big Tech corpos to ruin the Internet. Apparently we just can't reign in a dozen terrible companies that are responsible for 90% of the problems and instead have to entrench their monopoly forever.
What Fediverse software can we expect to implement ID/age verification to cozy up to tyrannical governments?
- Mastodon feels like the free bingo slot here but I could be wrong.
But I fully expect any instance that's fine with state-sponsored policing of 'misinformation' to eventually fold.
That's when they'll start using all the complying instances as a justification for harsher measures against independent instances.
I think the time of free speech on the clearnet has come to a close and over time the last few vestiges will be routed out.
The Internet no longer interprets censorship as damage.
I'm in the process of deciding how much I care about hanging on to a clearnet internet presence.
Serious question: Where are the AI success stories?
I've seen so many top-down initiatives to shove chatbots into things.
But has any non-trivial enterprise actually reported measurable efficiency gains from "agentic AI" or similar tools?
If you were wondering why everyone under a certain age lost their minds after 2012, this is a particularly compelling explanation.
But if she was right, we'd all just get along nicely here on the fedi...right?
What would be your dream Desktop Linux (or 'bsd) system configuration?
Is your current setup close?
What would close the gap?
I really need to learn a keyboard-centric workflow and I think part of that would include learning a tiling window management system.
But I'm hoping to migrate my main system from Arch to Guix once I devote time to learning it.
Why won't the people rise up?You ask.
Because humanity as a species has evolved past the need for mere 'bread and circuses' to control populations. It is far more effective to promote self-destructive escapism as a means to diffuse tension created from assaults. This is disturbingly effective because the very people who recognize what's wrong are the most affected.
Self-respect is the most valuable asset one can have in the face of this, and we should nurture it in others.
What would be the perfect desktop RSS application?
I've recently gotten back into one of my projects where I'm trying to build an #RSS reader with Rust & Iced
Things are coming together nicely since that last post...
- Items are now properly stored in a DB and actually retrieved for display
- I've written a module that parses description/content areas to build the layout (this was HARD!)
- It seems to work well with many feeds I'm testing out.
I really just need to get to the grind of completing it and adding the necessary features. But I'd love feedback from fellow open web enjoyers.
If you have any thoughts on must-have features I'd love to hear them.
My current dream list is:
- First-class #Tor & #I2P support with other options configurable (**I would really like suggestions on how to handle this well)
- Full text search (to be useful as a personal search engine)
- Import from FreshRSS (for entirely selfish reasons)
- Discovery features: the plan is to setup a way to discover feeds that your feeds link to.
I am regularly told that people stumbled on my work via my site's #i2p mirror. The 'regular web' may be dead, but I am convinced that darknets are alive and well with people actually browsing the web.
This surprises me because I have no idea how they're finding my site via I2P...
