Pulling the cell modem out of the Purism's Librem 5, or their Liberty Phone, and replacing it with a Meshtastic card would be a worthwhile project. If I had time I'd work on that right now.
From Brave Search's LEO AI, telling me what I already assumed.
"While the hardware kill switches and modular design make the Librem 5 ideal for privacy-focused, off-grid communication, using a Meshtastic-compatible card requires custom hardware integration.
You would need to:
- Design or source a custom M.2 card with a LoRa transceiver (e.g., SX1262/SX1268) and compatible firmware.
- Ensure the card interfaces correctly with the Librem 5โs M.2 slot (using SDIO and USB protocols).
- Develop or adapt Meshtastic firmware to run on the custom card and communicate with the Librem 5โs main system."
