BitBox released a security update for the BitBox02 hardware wallet over the weekend (release name “Dixence”). We would like to briefly and factually inform you what this is about and what you should do now. One tip upfront: If you have friends, family members, or acquaintances who also use a BitBox, please forward this information to them. Less technically experienced users in particular often do not notice such updates in time – a quick heads-up from you can help them keep their device secure. What is this about? The update addresses two vulnerabilities discovered internally by BitBox, as well as an older vulnerability that had already been fixed previously. Importantly, there have been no reports of customer funds being stolen and no indication that any of these vulnerabilities were ever exploited. An attack would only have been possible in highly specific, hypothetical scenarios – for example, if you had installed manipulated firmware through a fake app (phishing) and then unlocked your device. Are my coins or my seed at risk? No. Your existing wallet seed is not affected. You do not need to create a new wallet, move any coins, or replace your existing backup. What you should do now: Open your already installed BitBoxApp. Use the update notification directly within the app. If you need to download the app again, do so exclusively via the official website: bitbox.swiss/de/download Connect your BitBox and unlock it. Under “Manage device,” install the firmware update. Afterwards, verify that at least firmware version 9.26.5 is installed. One security reminder that always applies: Never download the app or firmware via search results, email links, or third-party websites – only directly through the installed BitBoxApp or from the official BitBox website. There is no fixed deadline, but we recommend installing the update as soon as reasonably possible. It only takes a few minutes.
