Got a smart home doorbell installed a couple of weeks ago (on behalf of the home owner who gets it for free from builder). Disconnected it from wifi immediately after install since these things are not to be trusted. One week later I get an email from it saying its battery is low and I have no idea how it did this. 😐

https://a.co/d/a8qNh91 It’s possible that I got a super late notification that was triggered during the brief time that it was connected. I can’t imagine they have some mesh network thing that uses other people’s connectivity like Apple’s AirTags. Beyond that I’m at a loss.

If the doorbell did it a whole week (which is short) I think the doorbel wouldnt send a message already from the beginning. Dont replace the batteries but look how long it takes for that thing to die
Yeah I’m waiting to see if another one comes in saying it’s now extremely low or whatever. Columbo is on the case. 🧐
