Lots of devs haven't even been around that long. Bitcoin hasn't increased in value enough in the past few years to get rich without insanely risky leverage strategies.

You want bitcoin devs to pay themselves for work today with their own unrealized savings account gains? How about the new 16 year old coming in today, that we need tomorrow? Devs are building and maintaining "the new financial roads" on their own dime - yes those running businesses that use the roads should kick down to those bad ass, self sacrificing, Mo Fos!
