The vast majority of printed reading material (Newspapers, Books, etc) are in a serif typeface. Yet, virtually all of digital reading material (Blogs, social networks, chat bots) are in a sans-serif typeface. What is the reason for this? I had always been told that serif is easier to read

sans serif is more readable on a digital screen. at least that's what my shit education taught me. found this link: https://graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/a/10785 but I'm gonna stop myself before I spend my whole day down this rabbit hole
I think it’s a hangover from low quality screens. I reckon if you changed the internet to Serif it would become a more formal place
