Going through an ancestors fiat collection (some partially non-fiat coins as well to be fair) and found some paper notes. Most I don't recognize other than a word (Belgium, France, Spain, Suisse, and at least one with what appears to be Arabic lettering). The older fiat coins were significantly more intricate compared to modern coins. I recognized this one but never seen anything like it.

Found some half dollar proofs and proof sets as well. Don't have much time to dig through the details right now unfortunately, but it's a few shoe boxes worth mostly from around the time soundish money became true fiat.
I think it's just black. The edges seem to have been dipped in wax or something for most of the bills. In another decade or so when I get to look at this again I'll put them in a book to flatten out.
The serial number… those are normal blue, red or green… I had to look it up… "Some variants of the 1935 dollar bill have brown seals. These Hawaii notes were used after the Pearl Harbour attack. North Africa notes had a yellow seal $1 bills were mostly used in World War II"
It is not only a silver certificate, but one overprinted "Hawaii" so that it could be repudiated if Japan managed to conquer that territory. A little over twenty years later, all Americans' silver certificates were repudiated.
