In recent years, authorities (particularly in Berlin) have imposed specific bans on Russian flags and symbols in certain locations to mark the end of the Second World War (8 and 9 May).
Why? The courts often justify this by arguing that displaying the flag in the context of the current war in Ukraine could be interpreted as an endorsement of the invasion and could jeopardise public order or the dignity of the memorial sites.
Where? This usually applies to Soviet memorials or certain places of assembly.
