On social media's supposed problem of 'corporate control'
Two possible alternatives to the status quo:
•People who do not like it voluntarily exit from them and attempt at building alternatives by deploying their time, labour, capital, energy and money - Nostr, Secure Scuttlebutt, Bluesky, Mastadon, Nostr, Rumble, Truth Social, Pear by Holepunch, Pubky.
•The state takes over the corporations and the means of producing the platforms, intervenes into the social media market and decides how big a platform can get before being broken up, and sets up a license and permit system where people need to ask permission before building a platform or a protocol on the internet.
The spirit of these choices applies to any given industry which faces similar problems.
