apathy is at all time highs... and going much higher!

Why are normgroids so apathetic, anyway? I get the whole "well things are really hard so why should anyone care about anything" line of thinking, but then I deal with everything anyone deals with as a regular middle class dude, and yet I still care, and I feel strongly that I am even more unwaveringly idealistic now than I was as a starry-eyed young boy, so what gives? What excuse do they have? Do normgroids just innately have small souls?
