That's what I thought. In the US we have the option to scan our faces at the airport. We can refuse, but we still have to show ID.
Why would anyone use Monero for this?

You're right. Using Monero is pointless if your identification is going to picked up by:
- the airline (booking details)
- border control (passport) and
- hotel (registration sign in).
