After the Rafah explosion, the White House and the U.S. Department of Defense confirmed that the incident was caused by a bulldozer belonging to an Israeli settlement that ran over unexploded ordnance contradicting Netanyahu’s claim that Hamas operatives had emerged from the tunnels.
When Netanyahu announced that he would block all aid deliveries to Gaza in response to the incident and launched a new bombing campaign, the U.S. administration informed Israel that it knew the truth. Just hours later, Netanyahu announced the reopening of the crossings.
