SteamOS is another vector, bringing Linux to a non technical crowd. I think the gaming audience becoming more familiar with Linux could help, it might push more well designed software to the Linux side. Valve did a good job with getting Linux drivers to work a lot better, gaben has sway in the industry, so maybe.
Android coming to desktop/laptop form factors, replacing ChromeOS will be interesting too. Desktop mode on my phone is actually useful.
I'm the opposite of you π I used to do support that included a lot of Mac & iOS users (I was even a Mac Maxi back in the day, until 10.7/8 π±) I find their later GUI decisions frustrating and Linux & Android easier. But everyone is different, and I'm certainly not a common user.

π€£π€£π€£ I deal with a lot of Linux and dealt with Windows and Solaris/BSD in my early days, but now I like the invisibility of Apple, that allows me to do my thing without being into my face. The OS is truly good when user doesnβt know its name or origins
Invisibility is in the eye of the beholder. Linux with Gnome is invisible to me. I try to use Windows or Apple and I can't figure out what to do.
I once had an MCSE cert. long ago. That's what made me switch to Mac π€£
Never used it, got hired at a shop with Linux servers and learned on the job π I loved my Macs back then, a lot of knowledge was compatible between OSX & Linux on the command line. I got so comfortable with Linux I bought a ThinkPad and never looked back.
