“We’ll send you a code to verify your account”.
Person writes down your email address and other details, walks (slowly), from the top floor, to the accounts verification department, in the basement, slowly reads your email to a colleague, who happens to be deaf, the exchange takes sometime. The verifier, after checking, writes a 6 digit code on a piece of paper, gives it to the colleague who then walks back to the top floor using the stairs, then hand writes a note, including the code and proceeds to the email senders office in an adjacent building where they transcribe the information into an email and send back.
You receive the 6 digit code… it is invalid, you took too long to use it.
True story imo.
