Imagine your favourite charity came up to you and said, 'Would you like to donate?' You give them £1; they would reply, 'You are not supporting us enough. We cease to exist if you only give us £1.' How would you respond? And how is this different online? If the amount I am giving as a gesture of goodwill becomes compulsory, or if, worse, the recipient 'does not appreciate' my donation, do you think I'll be inclined to donate again? Does your action promote more donations to your cause, or are you alienating your prospective supporters? 🤔🫂 #asknostr #nostr #grownostr #plebchain nostr:npub1luvpvkhauqy994y6fcf3djvpc7hszexpsyxqhs87g8fkrhtu5lcqylnmt5 — thank you for this satire ☺️ it's very fitting for what was trending on my feed in the last 24 hrs 👌 nostr:note1h59uth3x5w6f9nnfazmufqpe2wgtn8yj4dsyk082dxnuurjmt63qkakhka

This “YOURE NOT ZAPPING ENOUGH” argument happens every couple of months. You can just about set your watch to it. The irony is that so many folks equate posting pictures and writing snarky sentences to standing outside all day in the cold playing saxophone to earn enough for a sandwich. busking for meals and posting on social media are NOTHING alike.

it is all about perception. Some people over value how much they "must" get vs how much people truly believe their value. Value in the sense that it is valuable enough for them to donate. Some people hate the idea of self promotion, some embrace it. Most often than not, the former believes that bcoz they do x,y,z it will warranty donation/sats. The latter would hone their craft, test their craft via audience engagement (zap, like, repost, comment). This is what creators would call as testing your target audience. But simply expecting it is not testing your target audience. It's alienating your audience. Build trust, connection and give value without expecting anything in return. You will be surprised how much people will appreciate you in exchange. Expectation can be the root of pain and sufferings. ☺️🫂

You’re half right, those two examples are nothing alike. However, unlike the person standing in the cold trying to earn enough money for something to eat, most people on here aren’t posting in an attempt to solicit sats from you. Or at least that’s how I choose to see it, because I have been saying it for some time that you can never know if someone is posting because they are being authentic or they think they can make some easy money. There should be one location to zap, the person’s profile, and only that person will know what you zapped. TL;DR Having a per post option is asinine and does more harm than good.

This is what’s wrong with this whole “value for value” concept, the creators tend to think there is more value in what they say/do, especially if they receive a large donation from someone, then they expect everyone to find the same value. To use the OP’s example, if I am playing my instrument and someone comes up and drops a $20 in my guitar case, you then start to critique those that donate less because they don’t find the same value. I said it over a year ago and I’ll say it again, having a per post zap option is moronic and can only lead to dishonesty. The only place your wallet should be accessible is from you’re own profile and only the recipient should see how much was sent and by who.

This. Intrinsic value of media content is low. Anyone can create pictures and write texts. Main effort is put in what they are trying to convey: complexity, originality of "what", depth of meaning of "what" or power of conveying (hello, mass media).
