I can't believe Mastodon has had completely arbitrary follower counts determined by whoever is serving the profile all these years: So basically on Mastodon each user can basically pick a number and decide that's it and the entire network will just accept it -- or perhaps "question it", but just accept it most of the times. And people say Mastodon is better than Nostr or has "solved" that side of the UX while Nostr is awful because follower counts are different depending on how you look.

This is not a problem with WoT. This is a problem with 15 years of “follow” implemented by “walled garden” socials where trust is taken for granted. The problem is that “follow != trust” and this matters even more on Nostr. View quoted note →
