He didn't fork Bitcoin, he just supported Jihan Wu's fork, and he wasn't selling some valueless shares that he made up himself for an arbitrary price, he was operating an exchange and giving people actual BCH. I don't know the details, but that doesn't sound super scammy to me, specially if you consider that no one owns the "Bitcoin" brand, not even the Bitcoin Core organization (I know, it's shocking). The fact that he owned the bitcoin.com domain is more of a failure of the DNS system than anything, the same applies to nostr.com today.
Now what if Nostr was adopted by Facebook and Facebook decided that everybody would just read from the facebook.com relay and other clients followed that decision, then, worse, Facebook started to use a complicated key delegation scheme and everybody else followed on that and everybody was calling that "Nostr".
Then Rover Ger, an idealistic Nostr enthusiast, would say: "no, that is not the original Nostr" and make a client that is compatible with the Nostr we have today and host it on nostr.com and say that was the real Nostr, tricking users who wanted to talk to their Facebook friends, who would then call him a scammer for that.
