Are you using Primal? I got it to work on there by clicking the search button (top right), searching “#asknostr” and then clicking the save button (top right) which saves the search to your home feeds👌

This is highly dependent on the client, so you can't just figure out one thing for Nostr itself. You need to be more specific as to what you are asking in order to get a good answer. There are basic tutorials on the absolute bare minimum implementations, but those are older and they do not reflect reality at this point from what I've seen.
