Don't go with incandescent light bulbs as they can generate enough heat to light the pine needles on fire once the tree inevitably starts to dry out.
Keep the base's water supply topped up daily to keep it from drying out too soon.
Know the height of the ceiling where you want to place it and the approximate width/circumference you want before you go looking for the tree.
All of this but also add an aspirin or sugar to the water.
I've heard that it's a good idea to give it a new cut once you get gone, kinda like with flowers, so it has the best absorption ability, and lives longer, but I'm not sure if that's all trees or just certain ones.
didnt expect you to know so much about human customs 😉
much appreciated 👍
I've heard that too. I'm gonna ask the tree lot when we get it
It is good idea to buy a live Christmas tree and later plant it in garden when the cold has gone.
I'm not sure how well it'll fare in a desert climate 😅
They sell Christmas trees with the root ball? Where?
It's like

Put a penny in the stand with the water. And some sugar. It'll keep it happy longer. Also make sure to keep it watered. It'll slurp up a surprising amount of your initial fill.
As for lights the old big ones are nostalgic but can literally cause fires. LED's do the job and use much less power.
I'm seeing on Gemini that the penny and sugar may be myths. Maybe DYOR there. It's how I've done it based on what I was told but it looks like there's not a benefit and it may encourage bacterial growth.
Definitely keep it watered though.
Do also make a fresh cut. You don't need to cut much, but especially if you're not cutting it at the farm before coming home, you want some open capillaries to draw up water.
Also, if you ask me, Frasier Fir is the best. Spruces work but are spikey!
thanks for all the info! I think I'll just stick with water. keep it easy. sugar water and pennies with a 20m toddler running around seems an unnecessary risk.
I always put the penny below the stump anyway but yea, sounds like no real purpose.
Best of luck with the toddler around the tree. Maybe avoid glass ornaments...
yeap. I'm looking at felt ornaments this year
Ah yes, so that the tree is not hung over 😁
It supposedly helps keep it from dying? Idk. It's what I've been told my whole life.
