The Chinese don't need fingerprints because they follow you around with CCTV and face recognition during your entire trip. Border don't bother me that much, but AirBnB / apartment KYC indeed has gotten completely out of control. It's basically the same as opening a bank account. Each time. And booking platforms are juicy phishing targets. Hotels tend to be less nosy, though the self-service ones are pretty close.
