you don't lose contacts, it's just that every client has to be set up by you (if u have the time to tinker with them), so you have all the same relays in every client u use.

I like Iris for some things, Primal for others and Snort for when I can't find some stuff in either. Astral and Satellite would be my last options cuz they look clunkier... but Iris and Primal look sleek. Snort.. uh... kinda... astral and satellite are a bit funkier. All 5 I've used on desktop.
