#Amethyst allows edit but other clients won't show the edit if they haven't implemented edit functionality
Will it work for long-form articles? Maybe I go buy an android phone just to use #amethyst

You can emulate Android on a computer and install Amethyst that way if you just need to edit a note
I think habla.news and yakihonne also let you edit articles.
Since longform content is an addressable event all clients should also show edits
