Onboarded my mom to Nostr today. Or… at least I tried😅 She has zero Bitcoin background, zero clue what decentralization means, and asking her to manage a private key was already a mountain to climb. ("Wait… what do I do if I lose this password?… 🤯) After 1.5 hours, we ended up writing the nsec on a piece of paper. She is taking a well-deserved break now. Bless her. The hardest part? Self-custody and taking full responsibility for your keys is scary when you have lived your whole life with banks, password resets and someone to call when things go wrong. Explaining value-for-value and zapping when you come from a lifetime of centralized platforms and like-slavery. Also: she doesn’t speak English so even the app settings were confusing. But I’m sure we are getting there as she always questioned the system and the government and is looking for ways and tools to get information! Mom, I love you so much. We’ll get there.

Awww way to go momma 👏 What app are you using? I know Damus has translated the navigation into several languages. And it does on device translations for all your posts!
We started with primal. I let her chose between YakiHonne, Damus and Primal and she liked primal from the ux the best but I told her there won’t be any translation 😂 so today we will try Damus 🙌🏻

It would be great if/when yakihonne does more translation. I think their longer form messages and UI could appeal to more users. Let us know if she likes Damus
