I think a lot of people support the government because they are lying to themselves about who they are. "I would never abuse my power so why would anyone else?"
I'm not lying to myself. If I woke up supreme ruler tomorrow you'd likely see mass executions. Anyone in big data government and advertisers both, most of the lawyers, and anyone who ever planted English Ivy.
