GM! “You Can Just Do Things.” Seeing this phrase repeatedly on NOSTR takes me back several years. Time for an old fart story, but I am NOT a boomer. Barely not a Boomer. My first “corporate” job was with a (now) big company most of you know. We were smaller then, but growing like crazy. I loved my co-workers, respected them and I was learning a lot. We took lots of pride in our work and enjoyed making things better. As we grew, new management and C-level positions got filled, not always with internal hires. A particular consultant made his way to be the head of our department. I don’t remember the details, but a group of us had taken the initiative to implement something that ended up not working out perfectly. During a meeting about the issue, the new big boss told us “You CANNOT just do things.” Those were the exact words, we repeated them to each other often (sarcastically) after that. At the time, I embraced the message. We were getting bigger, things change. It is very interesting to look back at it now. “You CAN Just Do Things” is better. Take initiative to improve things. Risk screwing up, which will allow you to learn. I think “You CAN Just Do Things” is the right approach. Chaos can lead to good. Spontaneous Order! I think Hayek would like “You CAN just do things.”
