I don't think the totality of Bitcoin Knots fans intend to take this kind of aggressive or confrontational approach. More client implementations are good for the diversity of the network.

as with most things, it is the loud minority that acts in bad faith
And I'd bet most of that subset don't run a node at all.
Or the loud minority, like the tyrant core devs that started this controversy in the first place
