Opportunity to repeat something like the Doha deal with the Taliban - exclude Zelensky so Russia can finish the job?
Most likely, I really believe in the theory that Trump and Putin will divide Europe between them, each taking what they consider important. Both win, and no one would be able to defeat a joint Russian-American army.
