Proof-of-work hashing and the difficulty adjustment, Nakamoto Consensus, do not "verify transactions". Transactions are verified by #Bitcoin node software (a) for acceptance of the transaction into that node's mempool and (b) for acceptance of a proposed block of transactions. - @Pierre Rochard #BitcoinTwitter
