You can tell if someone, including yourself, is solution oriented in a debate or if they need to be right by “how” they say things.
If you are correct about something, righteousness subtly moves into self-righteousness. This can be undetectable and feel like a source of power that leads into a god complex over time.
I love proverbs 28:1 and pursuing the wicked. But I don’t think you should derive pleasure or the feeling of power from that. Just relief that justice finds its balance.
So it just seems that it’s always best to assume a beginner’s mind, ask more questions and focus on what the objective of any debate is.
Solution oriented debates sound so different that it’s embarrassing when you recount times you were being self righteous. And needing power grab is a sign of weakness somewhere else in your life.
