Bitcoin Arithmetic #15 – Miners Are Puzzle Solvers
Think of all the treasure notes you and your friends make as a big stack of secret messages. Before the messages can be added to the treasure map (the timechain), someone has to solve a tricky puzzle. These people are called miners. They use lots of thinking power to solve the puzzle and make sure every note is correct. Once they solve it, they add all the notes to the treasure map so everyone can see who owns which coins. Solving the puzzle also gives the miner a new coin as a reward, which is how new coins come into the world. This keeps the treasure safe and makes sure no one cheats.
