More configurability I would say. There are a number of things that Core have done to make it a little hard to maintain forks of it, like hard coded names distributed throughout many files. It requires additional changed files and sometimes more iterative testing and revision after multiple commits. I don't know the full scope of the differences though. You can inspect them yourself with a git diff between the two forks.
