On the other hand I'm also pretty sure that we greatly underestimate the degree to which classical Greek philosophy influenced Christianity (through the scribes who set the earliest gospels from oral tradition into written form) and also that we greatly underestimate or deliberately obscure the degree to which both ancient Judaic and Grecian philosophies were influenced by more ancient Zoroastrian and other eastern philosophical strains.
Cultural appropriation is not a recent invention and it's been a major factor in Western civilization for millennia.
