Venerable Confessor Sofronie of Cioara, a simple monk, stood against the imposed Union with Rome in 1761. Gathering thousands of Orthodox Christians, he led peaceful protests, demanding religious freedom. Despite imperial threats, he remained steadfast in his faith, inspiring many to resist assimilation. Eventually arrested, he endured imprisonment rather than compromise his beliefs. Though his later life is veiled, his courage ignited a flame of Orthodox resistance in Transylvania.
