Good luck, hobbiest wood worker, trained carpenter myself. Chestnut was once very popular where I live, now it’s very tough to get, actually never worked with it other than removing old trim. Must be nice to work with because they trimmed out a shit load of houses in the early 1900’s with it.

It feels like white oak while planing it flat, but softer. I think it's around a 1000 in the janka scale, while white oak runs in the high 1800. Beautiful timber though, awesome grain and cheaper than white oak, very underrated
