Why anybody thinks a truly unique POW that’s a directed acyclic graph without orphan blocks, vs a block chain, won’t be purposeful in a future digital economy is crazy to me.

I believe you’re correct. Many people derive their solutions from those that preceded them. Few arrive at solutions from critical thought.
