that's why I suggested an option in Amethyst so everyone can willingly pay a subscription every month to the app, either using NWC or at the end of the month you can a notification for renewal, they could give you an optional badge to display on your profile saying you are a subscriber and nothing more,

The only people that would see the badge are other users of that client. Also, most popular clients already have subscription options to offset their costs, if any. And if you really want to go full Trump, a couple of them even sell cheap merchandise for an inflated price. Then you have clients like YakiHonne which puts the more popular devs to shame and highlights what’s really important to them, the users.

If its listed in terms of use it is optional. You use the client or you dont. I think many are thinking an egregious percentage being allocated. This is where a user decides if greed is as play. What are a few millisats per zap? Sends fundage back to dev and if they hike the rate they watch usage drop or people stop zapping on that client. None of us were forced to download or use anything

That’s not a choice, but ok. 🙄 You’re also making it more difficult than it needs to be. Offer a subscription and receive more features, like Damus, who has no problem using TestFlight builds as a perk rather than what it’s actually meant for. And let’s not forget their $3 hat that they want $50 dollars for. Primal has a subscription option as well that offers extra features for those that choose to subscribe, like a premium relay, your own NIP-05 and lightning address. That’s probably the closest to a fair arrangement I have seen from clients asking for money. The user doesn’t feel extorted and the devs aren’t losing money. Then you have projects like YakiHonne that put them all to shame. They’re not looking for profit or status, they do it because they truly want to offer a product to their users that makes them happy. The bottom line, these devs have already figured out how to monetize their work, they don’t need any more half assed suggestions.

They did not. All of them currently are operating in the red, being solely propped up by VC funding, or grants. Which won’t last very long as the VC funders that run the grant charities, and invest in commercial apps have no interest in giving grants to apps that could be a real competitor.

Well, they are either bad liars or bad businessmen, they really should become proficient in one or the other or just close up shop now. I was active in the Android development community for the better part of a decade and not once did any of them ever need to extort their users for money.

No problem with me if people desire fame. Wasn’t my goal but no harsh feelings. It was his blatant sexism and harsh talk towards women that made me sick. 🤢 He was warned multiple times. I disagree with your statement on the premise that client devs "should" be Zapped, it gives similar premises/implications that statists use to justify taxation (for roads, etc.). If clients are valued people will voluntarily zap them if they work on the foss model. Clients that operate on a business model need to offer good services that make people want to use their client. I zap my nostr friends, and I also zap Nostr Devs, and If I had money I would also buy Nostr Services that I need, or want. V4V, It's the infrastructure vs. content battle. What's the point of infrastructure if there's no good original content, what's the point of good original content if the infrastructure sucks? Nostr will either adapt, or die, simple as.
