avoid people who critique how you make an argument, rather than critique the content of argument.
conversely, make your arguments in such a way that the delivery of the argument does not detract from the content of the argument

I tend to preface my argument with a question, helpful to set the context. Less chance of misunderstanding in case I mangle my words :-P
