you wouldn't run your car on fuel oil
short chain hydrocarbons and ICEs built for those have their uses

Lol what is the trade off? Diesels get better fuel economy, have more power, and the motors last longer.
Are you comparing that with US petrol cars? For me diesels are lazy any need to be properly heated, so they're not good for short travels around.
